This course is designed to familiarize the students with the operations of latest biochemical equipment in the laboratory. It is meant to take them through the types and process of research that will help them during their final year research project; teach them how to design experimental biochemistry from available information and data; Analyse, interpret, draw inference, make conclusion and recommendations from biochemical research data. Students will also be taught the process of scientific reasoning and be shown what constitute scientific research; types of scientific research; benefits of scientific research project and how to formulate hypothesis. Furthermore, students will be taught about effective use of library, how to assimilate and disseminate information obtained from the library; rules of citation and referencing. Finally report format for dissertations or theses; preparation of papers for journal publications and conference and Research ethics will taught.

At the end of this course students should be able to:

  1. Use most of the equipment in the Biochemistry laboratory for their final year research project with little assistance from the technologist

  2. Understand what constitute research and scientific research

  3. Explain the research process and research project

  4.  Design experimental biochemistry from available information and data

  5.  Analyse, interpret, draw inference, and make conclusion and recommendations from biochemical research data.

  6. Effectively use  library for their final research write up

  7.  Assimilate and disseminate information obtained from the library

  8. Report their final year research work properly

  9. Prepare  papers for journal publications and conference

  10. Understands the ethic of their respective research

  11. Properly identify the benefits of their  research to humanity
