Virology & Tissue Culture (MCB 482) is a 3 credit course with two hours lectures each week taught by one or two instructors in the department. It is aimed at inculcating enhanced knowledge of virology to facilitate the understanding of how viruses cause diseases; and how viral diseases are diagnosed in the laboratory. The course encompasses: Structure, properties and classification of viruses; Principles of isolation; Cultivation and maintenance of plant and animal cells in vivo; Application of cell culture technique in virology; Viruses as agents of diseases in animals, with humans as model. This course is targeted to undergraduates majoring in microbiology. Introductory Virology (MCB 381) is perquisite to this course.
