Bingham University’s School Of Postgraduate Studies Holds Orientation Exercise For Newly Admitted Students For The 2024/2025 Academic Session.

The Postgraduate School recently welcomed new students at an orientation program held at the Architecture Auditorium, providing a platform to familiarize them with key components of their academic journey.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Haruna Kuje Ayuba in his remarks welcomed the students, he emphasized the university’s vision to foster a Christ-centered environment where academic excellence and personal growth thrive hand in hand. He reassured students that their admission into Bingham University was not a coincidence but part of a divine plan for their lives, referencing Acts 17:26-28.
He added that “Bingham University is one of the fastest growing conventional but faith-based University in Nigeria. The University was founded in 2005 through the visionary leadership of its founding fathers. Today, the University has grown in leaps and bounds with 15 Faculties, 46 Undergraduate and 58 postgraduate programmes. There are two campuses (Karu campus is the main campus while Jos Campus plays host to the College of Medicine).”
Professor Ayuba reminded students of their responsibilities, urging them to imbibe Christian virtues such as love, kindness, accountability, and respect for others. The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized the importance of active participation in both academic and spiritual programmes urging them to participate in Chapel activities.
He encouraged students to embrace the challenges and opportunities of university life, remain focused on their goals, and seek help when needed. “The years ahead will be transformative,” he said. “Envision the person you want to become and work towards that vision with passion and determination.” Professor Ayuba assured students of the management’s commitment to providing an enabling learning environment to ensure their success and they in turn can also contribute to the growth and development of the university.
The Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof Bamidele J. Okoli during the session, introduced the various categories of postgraduate programs offered in the university, including Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees, and Doctoral programs. He highlighted the specific durations of each program and the structured flow that guides students from admission to completion.
Prof Okoli also emphasized on academic publications. Master’s students are required to publish at least one paper, while PhD students must publish a minimum of two papers, all in journals with registered and verifiable DOIs. This requirement underscores the importance of contributing to academic knowledge and ensuring the global visibility of their research and the university.
Prof Okoli in conclusion, introduced students to essential postgraduate regulatory documents and the postgraduate logbook. These resources are invaluable in helping students track their progress and adhere to the university's academic guidelines and tenure of their studentship.
The orientation concluded with various presentations from different units of the university and an interactive Q&A session where students had the opportunity to seek clarifications.
