About Programme

This program is structured to provide students with an immersive learning experience, combining two semesters of intensive study at Bingham University (culminating in an M.Sc. Public Health) with a specialized 3–4 month module and research project supervision at LSTM (leading to an MPH).

Upon successful completion of all requirements, a single certificate will be issued, bearing the official logos of both universities and the signatures of both Vice Chancellors and University Registrars, signifying a truly integrated and globally recognized qualification.

This collaboration will enhance the capacity of public health professionals in Nigeria and beyond, fostering a new generation of leaders equipped to address complex health challenges with both local relevance and global perspective.

Program Rationale

Nigeria faces significant public health challenges, including a high burden of infectious diseases, emerging non-communicable diseases, and weak health systems. There is a critical need for highly trained public health professionals who possess both a deep understanding of local contexts and a global perspective informed by international best practices.

The joint MScPH/MPH program will be a 12-month full-time program comprising two distinct, yet integrated, phases.


Program Structure

Bingham University Component (M.Sc. Public Health)

  • Duration: Two Semesters
  • Location: Bingham University, Nasarawa State, Nigeria (predominantly hybrid)
  • Focus: Foundational public health principles, contextualised public health challenges in Nigeria, epidemiology, biostatistics, social and behavioural sciences, environmental health, health policy and management within the Nigerian context.
  • Outcome: Students will complete the core coursework equivalent to M.Sc. Public Health in Bingham University(Coursework/taught component).

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Component (MPH)

  • Duration: 3–4 months (intensive period)
  • Location: Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK (predominantly residential)
  • Focus: Advanced topics in infectious disease epidemiology, health protection, research methods, and specialized modules aligned with expertise in LSTM. This period will also include intensive training in dissertation methodology and collaborative supervision.
  • Outcome: Students will complete the taught component requirements of the MPH program in LSTM.

Admission Requirements

  • 1. A first degree (minimum Second Class Lower Division or equivalent) in a health-related discipline (Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Environmental Health, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine) or other relevant sciences (Sociology, Demography, Statistics) from a recognized university.
  • 2. Demonstrable interest or experience in public health
  • 3. Proficiency in English
  • 4. Satisfactory performance in a joint admissions interview conducted by representatives from both universities.
  • 5. Completion of a detailed application form, including a personal statement and academic transcripts.

Tuition and Fees (Estimated Annual per Student)

  • Total Tuition Fee (per student): NGN 19,000,000 or £9,000
  • Breakdown: of tuition split between universities will be NGN 4,500,000 (£2,500) paid to Bingham University and £7,000 for Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

Additional Costs (Students' Responsibility)

  • 1. Application Fee (BHU): N50,000
  • 2. Acceptance Fee (BHU): N100,000
  • 3. Accommodationand Living expenses at LSTM: £1,200/month
  • 4. Visa fees, international travel (to/from UK): Variable
  • 5. Health insurance: N/A
