Published on: Nov 12th, 2025

Bingham University kicked off its week-long activities with a commemorative church service, filled with testimonies of God's goodness.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba, reflected on the institution's 20-year journey, thanking God for the progress and growth. He encouraged students to excel in knowledge and character, emphasizing the importance of knowing God personally.

He also highlighted the university's recent achievements, including the (2) 109 room hostels, expanded Oshatoba hostel, New Faculty of Education Building, improved electricity, a ₦220 million grant for the Law library, John Kennedy showroom, multipurpose laboratory, amongst others.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Dankyau, delivered a powerful message on "The Sacred Assembly of Promise and Purpose," drawing from Leviticus 23. He emphasized the importance of God's Word, highlighting its reliability and faithfulness.

Prof. Dankyau explored the biblical concept of convocation, noting its various forms, including holy and unholy convocations. He explained three key types:

1. Convocation of Rest: A Sabbath day of rest and remembrance, echoing God's rest on the seventh day (Hebrews 4). We're called to enter this rest.

2. Convocation of Trumpet: A holy convocation marked by trumpet blowing (Leviticus 23:24-25), symbolizing new beginnings, memorial, and new identity.

3. Convocation of First Fruit: A permanent command to offer our harvest back to God (Leviticus 23:15-21), giving our first and best to Him.

As we convocate the 17th set of Graduands, convocation is a moment we offer our harvest back to God. A moment as students we give our first fruit back to God. He encouraged the congregation to strive for excellence in all they do.

The service was a wonderful way to begin the celebrations, and it's clear that Bingham University is a community that values its faith and academic pursuits.
