Bingham University Holds Convocation Lecture With The Theme 'Empowering Graduates As Global Citizens For A Sustainable Future'

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayuba expressed his gratitude to the Chairman, Board of Trustees and President of ECWA worldwide, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat Mallam, members of the Governing Council, Senate and Management members, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. King-David Terna Yawe, Visiting Vice-Chancellors of sister Universities, Professors, University Community and graduands for finding time to attend the lecture.
He stated that it is pertinent to note that the world is rapidly changing with its rising challenges and opportunities and therefore no better time than now to address the topic of the lecture.
Delivering his lecture, the guest lecturer, Prof. King-David Terna Yawe congratulated the University community for the milestone attained thus far.
Prof. Yawe pointed out that the world must embrace opportunities and the challenges that come with current global realities, noting that as global citizens, one cannot afford to operate in isolation to current global realities.
He stated that Bingham University as a member of global citizens must engage in acquiring cutting edge skills alongside knowledge acquired through research and training, participate in global research collaborations and partnerships, developing leadership skills, embrace and adapt to the technology that AI has provided for a sustainable future.
While commending Bingham University for training students with entrepreneurship mindset to enhance their economic resilience and contribute to a sustainable future, he stated that competencies, curriculum integration, developing sustainable mindsets, leadership and advocacy, community engagements through collaboration and partnerships, gender equality, technology and artificial intelligence are critical for global citizenship.
Prof. Yawe outlined some recommendations for the university management for sustainable future to include: Curriculum integration, global exchange programmes, community collaborative engagement, research support, embracing technology advancement amongst others.
In conclusion, Prof. Yawe stated that in an increasingly interconnected and complex world, the role of global citizens cannot be over emphasized. He therefore, implored graduates and the entire university community to cultivate a global mindset with critical thinking and a commitment to social justice. He said, graduates should be equipped to address current and emerging pressing global challenges and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.
The convocation lecture attracted participants from the academia including Vice-Chancellors and Professors from sister universities as well as stakeholders in the Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Highlight of the lecture was the presentation of an award plaque to the distinguished guest lecturer Prof. King-David Terna Yawe and the handing over of the documented convocation lecture to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Haruna Kuje Ayuba.
