Bingham University Holds Its 21St Matriculation Ceremony, Charges 1,805 Fresh Students To Leverage Institutional Legacy For Lasting Impact

Bingham University has on Monday, December 15, 2025 charged 1,805 newly admitted students to uphold and leverage the institution’s legacy of excellence and Christ-centered values for personal growth and societal impact.

 

The charge was delivered during the 21st Matriculation ceremony held at the University Chapel by the guest speaker, Dr. Chibuzo Samuelson an alumnus of the University and a pioneer medical graduate, in a keynote address titled “Leveraging Legacies for Limitless Impact.”

 

Reflecting on the University’s over 20-year journey, the speaker described its survival and growth as a testament to the vision of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), the dedication of successive church leadership, and the resilience of the University administration. 

 

Recalling his own experience as one of the first set of matriculants two decades ago, Dr. Chibuzo described matriculation as a defining moment that signifies the inheritance of the Bingham mantle, a legacy of excellence, discipline, and goodwill built over the years. He noted that the University’s reputation had been earned through the character and achievements of its graduates across diverse fields globally.

 

The speaker urged the matriculants to protect and enhance the University’s good name through exemplary conduct and academic excellence, stressing that a good name is more valuable than riches. Highlighting pathways to success, the speaker charged the students to navigate their academic journey with faith, resilience, discipline, and focus, while avoiding distractions and building positive relationships.

 

Drawing from personal experiences, he emphasizes that challenges and setbacks are part of the journey, but perseverance and commitment are key to success. 

 

Earlier at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor. Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba charged the newly admitted students to embrace discipline, diligence, and academic excellence as they commence their university education.

 

He noted that the ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the students, symbolizing their transition from secondary education to the rigours and responsibilities of university life.

 

He disclosed that a total of 1,805 students were matriculated across 15 faculties, in 63 departments, and in 48 academic programmes for the academic session, adding that by taking the matriculation oath, the students had formally joined a Christ-centred academic community committed to producing change-agents for society.

 

Reiterating the vision and mission of Bingham University, Professor Ayuba stated that the institution aims to be a world-class conventional university in a Christ-centred environment, producing graduates with sound knowledge, practical skills, and the fear of God. He attributed the steady growth of the University over the past two decades to visionary leadership and the collective commitment of stakeholders.

 

The Vice-Chancellor outlined expectations for the newly admitted students, including prompt payment of school fees, strict compliance with university rules and regulations, regular lecture attendance, and mandatory participation in chapel activities. He encouraged students to familiarise themselves with support structures such as academic advisers, counselling services, the chaplaincy, and the Students’ Representative Council.

 

He further emphasised the importance of security consciousness, good maintenance culture, and positive contribution to the University community, urging students to imbibe biblical virtues such as integrity, honesty, accountability, love, and respect for others. Professor Ayuba warned that the University has zero tolerance for unethical conducts, including examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, sexual harassment, vandalism, and riots, stressing that offenders would face severe disciplinary measures.  

 

Assuring the students of Management’s support, he stated that the University would continue to provide an enabling learning environment through the construction of additional hostels, upgrading of library and ICT facilities, and provision of sports, recreational, and academic infrastructure, despite prevailing funding challenges.

 

The highlights of the ceremony featured the presentation of 1,805 newly admitted students by Deans of the 15 faculties and the administration of the Matriculation Oath by the Registrar, Mr. Daburi Bello Misal .Members of Senate took a group photograph aftertheevent. .

 

The ceremony attracted principal officers of the University, partners of the University, parents and guardians, staff, students, and other dignitaries, marking another significant milestone in Bingham University’s continuing journey of excellence.
