Bingham University Ventures Limited Commissions Bakery

Bingham University has taken a major step in strengthening its internal enterprise with the commissioning of the Bingham University Ventures Limited (BUVL) Bakery.

 

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba, said the revitalization of the university’s Ventures was a deliberate decision by the management as part of broader efforts to reposition Bingham University for sustainability and growth. He described the bakery as a significant step that would contribute meaningfully to the university’s revenue profile and community engagement.

 

Prof. Ayuba commended the Managing Director of Bingham University Ventures Limited and his team for driving the project to completion and expressed confidence that the venture would deliver long-term benefits to the institution and its environs. He also praised the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) for its partnership with the venture, singling out the SRC President, Oluwaseyi Chidume for her leadership and trailblazing role. The Vice-Chancellor stressed that all products bearing the Bingham University name must meet the highest standards, noting that quality and ethical compliance, including adherence to NAFDAC regulations, would not be compromised.

 

Earlier, the Managing Director of Bingham University Ventures Limited, Prof. John Aiyedogbon described the bakery as more than a production facility, calling it a symbol of innovation, self-reliance and practical impact. According to him, the bakery is equipped with modern facilities and skilled personnel to produce bread and confectioneries that will serve students, staff and the wider Karu community.

 

Prof. John said the project reflects the commitment of Bingham University Ventures Limited to translating ideas into tangible outcomes that support the university’s educational mission. He expressed optimism that the bakery would continue to grow and create opportunities across the  value chain.

 

The President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Miss Oluwaseyi Chidume, expressed gratitude to the university management for funding and supporting the initiative. She also thanked the Managing Director of BUVL for seeing the idea through to fruition. Speaking on behalf of the student body, she described the bakery as a strong signal of the university’s commitment to entrepreneurship, noting that it would benefit not only students but the institution as a whole.

 

Also speaking, the Director of the Centre for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership Studies, Dr. Sabastine Abu, congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on the progress recorded under his leadership, describing it as evidence of a clear and inclusive vision. He noted that regulatory officials, including NAFDAC representatives, had visited the facility and were impressed by the standards of the bakery. Dr. Abu said the center would continue to support marketing and entrepreneurial initiatives to ensure students gain practical exposure and value from the venture.

 

The Chairman, Bingham University Service Providers, Mr. Sunday Mainasara, welcomed the development, describing the bakery as a world-class facility. He emphasized that production is only complete when goods reach the final consumer, noting that students are already benefiting directly from the bread produced. He announced that henceforth, bread supplied and consumed within the university would be exclusively from Bingham University Bakery because of its high standard of production, thanking the management for turning the vision into reality.

 

Following the remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, alongside other principal officers of the university, formally commissioned the bakery, while the SRC President performed the symbolic launch.

 

In his closing remarks, the Registrar, Mr. Daburi Bello Misal, expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to bringing the project to life. He noted that the university was steadily replicating best practices seen in other leading institutions and congratulated Bingham University Ventures Limited on the achievement. He said the commissioning marked the beginning of more initiatives to come.
