Biography

Ajide Bukola (Ph.D.), was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She obtained a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Lagos State University (2000) and completed her NYSC compulsory program. She subsequently completed her M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology (2004) from College of Medicine University of Lagos and Ph.D. (2021) in Medical Microbiology from Federal University of Lafia, Nigeria. She also holds an MPH in Public Health from Bingham university (2021). She has since 2014 till date, taught mainly medical microbiology courses in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, Bingham University, Karu, Nigeria, where she has also held administrative posts such as the Departmental Seminar/Research Coordinator Level Coordinator/Students advisor (2015 to present). She was three-times patron of BIOSSA (2016-2019). She also volunteers at Zankli Tuberculosis reference laboratory Research institute, Bingham University.

Ajide is a hardworking, result-driven young woman with experience in research, youth development and organizational skills for several years. She was employed as part of clinical trial on CS gel Microbicide organised by Society for Family Health in collaboration with College of Medicine University of Lagos. An author and co-authors of articles in both international and local journals. She has supervised several student projects with some of their works published and currently mentoring undergraduate students.  She is also a quality peer reviewer for some journal in her field that have been accepted and published.

She has acquired diverse experiences in the area of genotyping Mycobacterium tuberculosis and research methods. The area of specialisation in her thesis has equipped her with necessary skills in handling of clinical samples processes using both conventional and real time methods in identifying MTB. She has acquired experiences in Hain Assay, spoligotyping etc and establishment of the sensitivity profiles of the isolates to various anti-TB drugs using LJ slopes, proportion method and BACTEC method.  She is also experience in the use of pathogen/protection biocontainment precautions in the TB specimen processes ranging from the use of lowest biosafety level 1 to level 3. Proficiency in usage of computer for scientific analysis and the use of bioinformatics in the analysis of genomic sequence.

She is a member of the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM) and American Society of Microbiology (ASM), a member of stop TB partner. Also, a member of New HIV Vaccine and Microbicide Advocacy Society-Ng (NHVMAS-NG), McGill TB Journal Club and Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria.

Ajide’s publications are well read, have citations on ResearchGate,  Google Scholar and Scopus index.

She is married to Femi Ajide (Ebubedike) and they are blessed with four children.
