Biography

Dr. Adesuwa Agbontaen began his university education at the University of Benin in 1984, where he earned a Doctor of Optometry degree. Following his graduation, he served in Kaduna State for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and subsequently started his professional career with the Kaduna State Ministry of Health. As the first and only optometrist in the ministry, he served for five years before moving to Abuja, where he established the Alpha Zone Eye Clinic, a family eye care facility.

 

Dr. Agbontaen has been an active member of his professional association, serving in various capacities over the years. He is a past Vice-President and National Secretary of the Nigerian Optometric Association and has also served as the Treasurer of the Africa Council of Optometry. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Optometric Association and currently holds the position of President of the Guild of Optometric Directors of Nigeria.

 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Agbontaen is an academic, serving as a lecturer and Acting Head of the Department of Optometry at Bingham University, Nassarawa State. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Pediatric Optometry at the Nigeria Post Graduate College of Optometry.

 

Dr. Agbontaen's contributions to the field of optometry have been widely recognized. He was named the Community Optometrist of the Year in 2010 by the Nigerian Optometric Association and has received multiple awards from the Rotary Foundation for his humanitarian work. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and currently serves as the President of the Rotary Club of Asokoro.

 

As the CEO and Founder of the Eye Care Aid Foundation, a non-profit organization, Dr. Agbontaen is dedicated to providing eye care services to underserved and indigent communities.

 

Dr. Adesuwa Agbontaen is married to Rita Agbontaen, and they have two children, Ehizogie and Ifueko Agbontaen.
