Dr. Tayo Ibukun Famojuro is an academic and researcher in the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bingham University, Nigeria. He obtained a Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy focusing on Cancer Phytotherapy from the Department of Pharmacognosy at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He was a visiting academic at the Department of Pharmacy in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Huddersfield, UK, and the School of Health, Sports, and Bioscience at the University of East London, UK.
Famojuro’s research focuses on pharmacognosy and natural products. He has made significant contributions to the field through his various studies on medicinal plants and their pharmacological properties. He has engaged in and continues to conduct various research projects exploring the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants, particularly those used in traditional medicine. His work has been recognized in reputable journals, including the Journal of Ethnopharmacology and the Avicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, where he published studies on the anti-sickling and cytotoxic activities of plant extracts and their bioactive compounds, respectively. Through his scholarly contributions, he continues to inspire future generations of researchers in the field of natural products. His collaborations with institutions like the University of Huddersfield and the University of East London demonstrate his dedication to promoting international research partnerships and advancing scientific knowledge.
Famojuro has served and is still serving in various capacities within his institution as chairman of the green campus committee, head of the university horticultural unit, head of the department of pharmacognosy, departmental examination officer, and faculty seminar coordinator. He was a recipient of awards including the Researcher Collaborations Grant, Postgraduate Research Grant, Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund Developing World Scholarship Grant, and Postgraduate Scholarship.
Famojuro is a member of professional bodies such as the Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON), the Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy (NSP), the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), the Phytochemical Society of Europe (PSE), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and the American Society of Pharmacognosy, and is a reviewer for several reputable journals including the Nigerian Journal of Natural Products and Medicine, Natural Product Communications, Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, Functional Food Science, Scientific Reports Journal, and Tropical Journal of Natural Product Research.
