Bachama Traditional Council has conferred the honorary traditional title of Nzokondoshi Bachama “The Teacher of the Bachama Kingdom” on Prof. Andrew Haruna, the Pro-Chancellor Bingham University. The conferement ceremony took place on Saturday, 6th June 2026 at Makwada Square, Numan, Adamawa State.

The title was conferred by His Royal Majesty, the Hama Bachama, Homun Daniel Shaga Ismaila, CON, PhD (Kpawo Nomwe, Gilongo Diya), in consultation with the Bachama Traditional Council.

The letter of notification signed by Pastor Damien Bitrus Dati, PhD, Secretary of the Main Organizing Committee stated that the decision followed Prof. Haruna’s “outstanding and selfless contributions to the advancement of education, scholarship, leadership, and national development, more especially as it impacted the Bachama Kingdom.

The council noted that Prof. Haruna’s academic and professional accomplishments transcend national boundaries. He has taught and conducted cutting-edge research at renowned institutions including Humboldt University Berlin, Germany; University of Vienna, Austria; University of Naples, Italy; University of Zurich, Switzerland; and SOAS, University of London.

The recognition is in keeping with the age-long Bachama tradition of honouring friends, sons and daughters of the Kingdom who have distinguished themselves and positively impacted their communities and society.

Prof. Istifanus Zabadi, Director of Research and Innovation, Bingham University, Karu, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, joined other dignitaries, members of the Bachama Traditional Council, academic colleagues, and well-wishers to witness the conferment.

The event featured traditional rites, royal blessings, and cultural displays by the Bachama people. Bingham University Community extends hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Haruna who now joins the list of distinguished Nigerians honoured by the Bachama Kingdom for service to education and national development.
