Bingham University Inducts 13 New Medical Doctors

Bingham University College of Medicine and Health Sciences recently inducted thirteen (13), new Medical Doctors, into the medical profession. The induction which was held under strict compliance with Covid-19 safety protocols was graced by the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, (MDCN) Dr. T. A. B. Sanusi, and other invited guests.
The Provost of the college, in his welcome address, congratulated the new doctors on their induction despite the delay caused by the National lockdown and closure of all universities by the Federal Government. He encouraged them not to look back to those trying times but to focus on what lies ahead. He also thanked parents and guardians for entrusting the university with the training of their wards.
“Medicine is a calling and not a glorified profession. It is a commitment made between you and your patients to oversee their care personally”. These were the words of the medical elder for the day, Prof. Edith Okere to the new doctors. She advised the doctors to take seriously the oath they had taken, respect the noble profession and ensures they impact the world positively.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W. B. Qurix, OFR who was ably represented by the Provost, Prof. A. M. Yakubu, congratulated the new doctors and as well the staff. He stated that the university was moving with global best practices in teaching methods as the university had undergone online teaching during the lockdown to continue academic activities without interruption even during the National lockdown and closure of all universities. Prof. Qurix informed the audience that the university had built two new lecture rooms and a board room for the College. He also stated that the university is proud of its Alumni who are doing well in their various places of assignments with 63% of them passing their Postgraduate College Primary Examination at the first sitting. He encouraged them to keep up the tempo.
Dr. T. A. B. Sanusi, the Registrar of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria reminded the new doctors on the need to uphold and respect the ethics of the medical profession. He equated the medical profession to a divine calling, and advised the inductees to be of good behaviour and have respect for all. “Medicine is a calling and not a glorified profession.
