
Bingham University Is First Nigerian University To Be Awarded The Good Financial Grant Practice (Gfgp) Certificate.

Bingham University was recently awarded the certificate for Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP). The award ceremony took place during a workshop organised in Abuja by The African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC). A foremost research institution that is engaged in strengthening of research and capacity through the Catalyze Impact Initiative (CII) in collaboration with Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU).
The university is the first institution in Nigeria to be certified for the Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP). This was as a result of the outstanding efforts made by the university through the various stages of the certification processes. It further underscores the university’s leadership in financial grant management and also sets a benchmark for other institutions across the country.
The Vice-Chancellor who received the award on behalf of the university commended APHRC for the initiative and commitment to promoting Research activities in institutions of higher learning. He also assured them that Bingham University will make good use of the opportunity as well as serve as mentor to interested institutions.
Some of the benefits the university stands to gain from the certification includes being listed in the directory of the global grant community. The GFGP certification which is globally recognised by grantors assures funders that certified organisations such as Bingham University provides governance of funds to the highest standards. It therefore, reduces administration times for both grantors and grantees as one assessment/certification covers requirement for multiple clients. Ultimately the certification improves chances of attracting more funding and provides clarity to grantors.
Present at the event was the immediate past Secretary General of CVCNU, Prof Yakubu Ochefu, as well as his successor Prof Andrew Haruna and Prof Elias Bogoro,immediate past Executive Secretary of TETFUND, officials of APHRC as well as participants from several African countries and institutions across Nigeria.
