Bingham University’s 40 Pioneer Medical Laboratory Science Graduands Officially Inducted Into The Profession

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria has inducted 40 Bingham University Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science graduands into the profession. The Induction and Oath Taking ceremony, themed "The Role of Medical Laboratory Science in Healthcare Delivery in the 21st Century," marked a significant milestone for the university's pioneer graduands.

 

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Musa Dankyau, congratulated the graduands and welcomed the audience. He highlighted the importance of accuracy, diagnosis, surveillance, and laboratory support in effective healthcare delivery.  Prof. Dankyau charged the new professionals to exemplify technical expertise, integrity, and compassion in the discharge of their responsibilities.

 

He emphasized that Bingham University, is more committed than ever to producing graduates who have knowledge and skills for self-reliance with values of Christ-like character, lifelong learning and innovation and people-centred professionalism to advancing healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.

 

The Guest speaker, Prof. A. I. Akyala emphasized the need for continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration in healthcare delivery. He encouraged the inductees to utilize technology, seek mentorship, and push boundaries to shape the future of healthcare.

In his remarks, Scientist Soji Billy-Rose highlighted the encompassing role of Medical Laboratory Scientists in healthcare delivery, including investment and entrepreneurial opportunities. He encouraged the inductees to seize these opportunities for their economic well-being and presented cash awards to distinguished graduands.

 

Speaking earlier, Dr. Ofili Donald Ibe, Acting Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, commended the university for establishing the program and emphasized the critical role of Medical Laboratory Scientists in healthcare. He charged the new inductees to adhere to professional standards, maintain integrity, and engage in further research activities in order to contribute to effective health care delivery.

 

He warned that the Council will not hesitate to discipline and withdraw license from any inductee if found culpable of malpractice in order to ensure public safety.  He stated that the ceremony of Oath Taking is a voluntary commitment to uphold the ethics inherent in the profession.

Speaking on behalf of the graduands, the overall best first class graduate, Destiny Ochanya Ogenyi, expressed gratitude to lecturers, parents, and guardians for their support. She acknowledged Bingham University's commitment, which fostered excellence and guided their career paths.

The colourful ceremony included the presentation of awards, including the Meritorious Service Award to Scientist Soji Billy-Rose and cash awards to distinguished graduands.
