Bingham University’s Department of Community Medicine and Primary Health Care recently hosted the 2nd Scientific MBBS Poster Presentation, a landmark event showcasing the academic accomplishments of 85 graduating medical students.
The forum offered students a platform to present the findings of their final-year research projects to faculty members and peers in a formal scientific setting. For many of the students, it marked their first experience engaging in academic discourse, fielding questions, and defending their methodology and conclusions before an audience, which is crucial for their upcoming final project defense.
The event underscored the department’s commitment to promoting a culture of academic inquiry, critical thinking, and scientific communication among future medical professionals. It also provided a unique opportunity for faculty to assess students’ understanding of public health issues and their capacity to apply research to real-world challenges.
In his welcome address, the Head of Department - Assoc. Prof. Toyosi Adekeye congratulated the graduating students, acknowledging the rigour and hard work they all put in. He also encouraged them to go even further by ensuring that their research projects are submitted to reputable peer-reviewed journals for publication. He also thanked the Department of Community Medicine faculty for their unrelenting efforts in supervising and mentoring these students. He closed by thanking the college and University for supporting the department in its quest to train doctors equipped to meet global health challenges through cutting edge research and practice.

Bello; Professor Chima; Associate Professor Esiegbe; Associate Professor Toyosi Adekeye; and all faculty and staff of the department participated in the assessments, providing valuable feedbacks that made the experience both rigorous and inspiring for the students as they developed the skill set needed for future presentations at national and international conferences.
