Bingham University, Karu, recently played host to the 2025 ECWA Students Ministry (ECM) International Conference, a gathering that brought together students, leaders, and ministers under the theme “Seeking God for a Lasting Impact” (Jeremiah 29:13).
In his address, the Director of Christian Education, Rev. Reuben Yaro, described students as a “precious treasure” and the future of the church. He reaffirmed ECWA’s deep commitment to the Students’ Ministry, urging participants to make the church proud through academic excellence, faithfulness, and godly living despite life’s challenges.
He emphasized essential virtues for students, urging faithfulness to God, academic pursuits, and personal commitments as foundational principles. He highlighted hard work as the key route to achieving excellence and preparing for leadership roles. Stressing integrity, he called on students to reject cultism, exam malpractice, dishonesty, and ungodly relationships. Additionally, he underscored the importance of purity and truth, encouraging students to guard their hearts and live as ambassadors of Christ. These values, he asserted, are crucial for shaping responsible and principled young leaders.
Rev. Yaro reminded students that the ECWA Students’ Ministry is a vital platform for growth, nurturing faith and fellowship on campus, promoting purity and service in local churches, and preparing them to be salt and light in society.
He further encouraged creativity, innovation, and self-employment, noting the need for youths to think beyond dependence on government jobs.
The Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba, warmly welcomed participants and underlined the importance of student fellowships in shaping both spiritual and academic development. He stressed that unity, faith, and integrity among young people are critical to the future of ECWA, Nigeria, and society.
Reflecting on the conference theme, he cautioned against the distractions of technology, peer pressure, secularism, and misplaced priorities, urging students to cultivate a deeper relationship with God that builds character, purpose, and positive influence. He also encouraged participants to pursue their academic dreams at Bingham University, which combines quality education with spiritual growth and offers scholarships and grants for ECWA members and pastors’ children.
Teaching from Jeremiah 29:13, the General Secretary of ECWA, Rev. (Dr.) Ayuba Asheshe, spoke on the theme “Seeking God for a Lasting Impact.” He emphasized that obedience to God brings lasting rewards, while disobedience leads to punishment. He explained that prosperity is not only about material wealth but encompasses various dimensions of life. He urged participants to seek God wholeheartedly, assuring them that their pursuit would lead to meaningful and positive impact.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musa Dankyau, who was the first National Secretary of ECWA Students’ Ministry, reflected on the history of ECM, recalling its beginnings over 30 years ago at the University of Jos. He noted that God’s work transcends individuals and generations, highlighting that lasting impact is achieved through discipleship and continuity. Prof. Dankyau encouraged students to seek God personally and align themselves with His purpose.
