The Law faulty of Bingham University has held its maiden Law week. The week was packed full of activities ranging from paper presentations, moot court session, and rounded up with a dinner.

In his welcoming address, the Dean Faculty of Law, Dr. David A. Agbu welcomed the guests, students, and the resource persons to the faculty's maiden Law week. He thanked the Management of the University for the support and the staff of the faculty for working tirelessly towards hosting the Law week. He wished all the participants and students a fruitful experience during the programme.

The representative of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Istifanus Zabadi who is also the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, while giving his address expressed his profound gratitude to God for the successful establishment of the faculty and the hosting of its Law week. He congratulated the pioneer students of the faculty for starting on the right footing, assuring them that if they continue to work hard, they would succeed. He pointed out that as Law students they were to take their studies seriously, obey the rules and regulations of the university and that of the country at large. The Vice Chancellor's representative charged the students to embrace the challenges that come with the profession, for it pays at the end. He applauded the students of the faculty for performing excellently during their last exams.

Prof. Maxwell Gidado, SAN, in a keynote address stated that the Law week is a week for each law student to look forward to, because it gave students the opportunity to practicalize what they are being taught, preparatory to what they would be doing when they graduate from the law faculty. He added that the Law week entails a gamut of activities, which include paper presentations from senior lawyers in practice and the academia, moot court sessions and to be rounded up with a dinner session, which are all expected to inculcate in the students the etiquette of the profession. He commended the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Bingham University for inviting an erudite scholar in the person of Prof. Oladejo Justus Olowu, Dean, School of Law, American University of Nigeria, Yola as a guest speaker. He implored the Law students to pay rapt attention as they stand to gain a lot from the erudite scholar's presentation. 

The guest speaker, Prof Oladejo Justus Olowu, in his presentation entitled “Preparing for the future today” stated that the best way to prepare for the future is to take care of the present. He added that “to succeed in life, one must have a goal and an aim”. He noted that everyone is the architect of his fortunes and misfortunes and that as aspiring lawyers it was important to understand that the opportunities available to lawyers are limitless as there are numerous organisations and individuals in need of legal services at any given time. Prof. Olowu noted that before anything else “preparation is the key to success”. He added that an individual must be prepared to make appropriate choices, ready to take opportunities that present themselves, work on personal character and traits and be able to time his actions to achieve his desired goals. He charged the Law students to “build your own pyramids; write your own biography; and leave your own legacies”.

Barr. Ocheniyi Dominic, Executive Secretary, Centre of Public Education and Legal Assistance, presented a paper on “Career options for aspiring lawyers: Essentials for success in legal practice”, where he spoke on the various areas of engagement as a lawyer to include private practice, company secretary, legal advisor, solicitorship, amongst many others. He added that a Lawyer's service is required in all facets of human endeavour. He implored the students to work hard to realize their dreams. 

Moot court sessions were held where students were exposed to the rigours of a typical court session. Professor Dominic Asala, the Chairman of the Moot Court trial expressed his gratitude to the staff of the Faculty for the role they are playing to train the students. He congratulated the participating students for performing excellently during the Moot Court trial sessions. The Law week ended with a dinner, where gifts were presented to deserving students of the Faculty.
