BINGHAM UNIVERSITY ‘S 46 PIONEER PHARMACY GRADUATES INDUCTED BY PHARMACY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA
Bingham University’s 46 pioneer pharmacy graduates were recently inducted by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor Prof. William B. Qurix, OFR represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dul Johnson congratulated the new inductees for achieving this feat. He also cautioned the graduands against ridiculing the name of the University. “As the first set of students to graduate from the Faculty of Pharmacy, your names would continue to reverberate within and outside the faculty, and many sets of students to come would make reference to your time and impact in the faculty and indeed the school. So, be good ambassadors of the University” he said.
The Chancellor of the University, HRH, Pharm. (Dr.) Luka Panya Baba while thanking God for the inductees, appreciated the Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed for gracing the ceremony.
He stated that Pharmacists are very important and special people in societies and urged the inductees to see themselves as such because of the role of Pharmacists in any society. He further stated that pharmacy profession has direct bearing on the wellbeing of the people. He advised the inductees to abide by the tenets governing the profession before seeking financial gains.
Earlier, his welcome address the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Assoc. Prof. John Alfa, stated that history has been made as the day marked the first induction and oath taking ceremony for the faculty. He appreciated the Chancellor of the University, HRH. Parm. (Dr.) Luka Panya Baba for the demonstration of love in making time to grace the ceremony out of his busy schedules. The Dean, was also full of gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W. B. Qurix, for his numerous and tireless efforts towards advancing the profile of the University, at both national and international levels.
The Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, while congratulating the University Management for turning out new Pharmacists, recognized the Chancellor of the University, HRH, Pharm. (Dr.) Luka Panya Baba for his contributions to the Pharmacy profession and Bingham University. Before administering the oath to the inductees, The Registrar, PCN, Pharm Babashehu intimated the inductees to be focused, consistent with the professional ethics in order to get to the peak of their careers. He stated that he was delighted to be in the first induction and oath taking ceremony of new Pharmacists in the University. The 46 graduands were thereafter inducted and administered the oath of the profession by the Registrar PCN.
In his Key note address, Chief Executive Officer of Tyonex Group of Companies, Abuja, Dr. Tyohemba Agba, a Pharmacist, advised the graduands to rise up to the challenge, seize every opportunity before them to become whatever they want to become. He stated that Pharmacy has great potentials of saving lives and economic benefits. He urged them to bring the ethics of the profession to bear in their practice.
Earlier, the University Chaplain Rev. (Dr.) Joseph Dyaji in a word of exhortation charged the inductees to be Christ representative, serving God and humanity where ever they may find themselves. He further admonished them to be good stewards of the profession translating the ethics of the profession into saving of lives.
In his valedictory speech, Pharm. Duru Ebubechukwu David and Pharm. Udeh Blessing Oluchi representatives of the inducted Pharmacists, who presented their speech on behalf of the new Pharmacists, lauded the resilience of their professors, lecturers, parents and the management of the University, promising that the labour in their lives will not be in vain.
Highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of awards to deserving newly inducted Pharmacists who had distinguished themselves academically amongst which were Pharm. Udeh Blessing Oluchi, Pharm. Duru Ebubechukwu David.
