Bingham University Vice-Chancellor Addresses 73Rd Ecwa General Church Council, Calls University A Strategic Mission Field

Bingham University, a young and growing institution with a student population of over 9,000, continues to make strides in Nigeria’s education sector. 

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba stated this on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, while addressing the 73rd General Church Council (GCC) of ECWA. He appreciated ECWA President Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat Mallam, the ECWA Executive, Board of Trustees, and members of the 6th Governing Council for their tremendous support to the university. He urged ECWA to envision Bingham University not merely as a conventional institution but as a vital mission field.

Prof. Ayuba highlighted that the university now has 15 Faculties, 1 College of Medical Sciences, 63 Departments, 48 undergraduate programmes, and 59 postgraduate programmes, with a steadily increasing student population. “Where conventional missionaries cannot go, graduates of Medicine, Pharmacy, IT, and all other programmes can go,” he said. “These graduates are the missionaries needed in the 21st century.”

He described the management’s Value Addition Action Plan as strategic, designed to make the university more attractive and give it a competitive edge.  Highlighting milestones for the 2025/2026 session, the Vice-Chancellor noted that 1,805 undergraduates matriculated and 753 postgraduates were admitted across 59 programmes. He revealed that 7 professors, 20 associate professors, 60 academic staff, and 90 non-teaching staff were promoted.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the final tranche of debt owed to ECWA Portfolio Management Limited had been paid. He also informed GCC that scholarships worth N231.3 million are to be awarded to 779 beneficiaries this academic year.  

The Zankli Research Centre has been upgraded to the Zankli Research Institute, the Vice-Chancellor said. He commended the Institute for securing $928,508 from the Gates Foundation for TB diagnostics validation and the Neuroscience group for winning a $15,500 IBRO grant. 

Prof. Ayuba shared insight into the three years division between two alumni factions, noting that both groups had agreed to an Interim Administration for the betterment of the association.

On infrastructure expansion, he listed ongoing projects to include a CBT Centre, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Architecture Studio, and GIS Lab to enhance quality.of learning.

Several other notable achievements were highlighted during his report to the General Church Council. 

Despite these gains, Ayuba listed urgent needs, including more hostels, faculty buildings, laboratories, a convocation arena, postgraduate school, chapel extension, solar lights, paved roads, and ICT upgrades. 

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied to the GCCmeeting by the Registrar, Mr.D.B Misal and Bursar, Mr P.Y Yusuf. .
